The Friday Feature - It's a Hoot!

Firstly ~ thanks you to all my old blogging buddies for checking out my new home on the interwebs, leaving me such sweet comments and giving me a really warm welcome back to the blogosphere. And to my lovely newbies ~ welcome to the goofiness that is 'The Sketchy Cook'!

As a special treat (and back by popular demand), I present to you......

The Friday Feature!!

It's a Hoot
(based on a true story).

Once upon a time in the Sketchy Suburbs there was a girl. The girl enjoyed sketching, and cooking and general looniness, but she was always too tired to sketch or cook or be loony. Every night she would go to sleep, and a short time later she would be rudely awakened by an ear splitting squawk.

"Twitt-Twooo!" went the feathered fiend, "Twitt-Twoo!!" he screeched. It was 3:30am, "What could he be so upset about?" wondered the girl. So the girl Googled the awful racket, and discovered that it was not an owl. It was two owls!

One hollers, then the other hollers back. The girl thought there had to be a better way. Why didn't the owls just get together and chat? Was Mr. Hooty too shy? Was he afraid of rejection? The girl offered the Tawny Owl some advice. She suggested he speak to his feathered female and ask her out. But don't yell it across the neighbourhood, give her a call!

 Making a quick 'Hooty Call'.

The girl recommended Mr. Hooty arrange to meet the object of his affection in person birdson(?) and ask her out on a proper date.

Give her flowers, make her feel special.

"You could invite her to a fly-in movie. Or bowling! Maybe not bowling on a first date (the shoes make you look goofy. Nobody wants to look goofy when they're out to impress, right?). Stick to safer territory, take her out to dinner, that way you can talk and get to know each other" advised the girl.

 A fine choice Madame!

"You'll talk. Time will fly. You'll find out that you grew up in the same forest! You like the same foods! She has a great sense of humour. You really like her. You're falling in love......and I bet she feels exactly the same way about you!" said the girl to encourage the owl, and boost his confidence.

"When the moon hits your eye........that's amore!"

"Once you guys are officially an item you will never want to be apart. You could whisk her off on a holiday.
I hear Scotland is really nice this time of year. You should go. Seriously. You'll love it. She'll love it!".

Yes it is quite far away, why do you ask?

"Who knows, once you're there you might find you like it. You could get a job. Settle down together. Start a family!*" the girl added.

That looks right up your street! Good wages too.

But, sadly, the girl could not speak owl, so Mr. Hooty did not understand, and therefore could not take her advice :(

So, to this day, he continues to "Twitt-Twoo!!" at the top of his owly lungs, and Miss Owl always dutifully replies. Maybe deep down she is hoping that Mr. Hooty will eventually tell her how he feels and sweep her off her branch? Maybe she's not that into him and is just being polite? The girl from Sketchyville can only dream that they will one day get together and elope..............

Well, that is - she would dream it, if only she could get some sleep.......

....The End.

The Friday Feature starred Hooty the Owl (as Mr. Hooty), and Olivia Owl (as Miss Owl). It was written and illustrated by Becks, The Sketchy Cook. No owls were harmed, or exiled, in the making of this feature.

For the record, I believe it's usually the female owl who starts the call-then the male responds. Or it's two males having a debate about territory (just in case you were wondering!). That's according to my research, anyway (yes, those pesky owls kept me awake all bloomin' summer! They still wake me up now, but not as often).
...................................................................

Anyhoo- I hope that the first ever 'Sketchy Friday Feature' cheered up your Friday 13th! :)

The weekend starts here! Have a great one, and if you're in the U.K ~ batten down the hatches on Saturday and try not to get blown away - it's going to get breezy!

*(Why do I always want to say 'Omelets' instead of 'Owlets? Weird).

Hoot-rah for Friday Features!!!

We have an owl that keeps us awake during the summer, too. Let me correct that... keeps me awake. Everyone else is fast asleep. >:o/

Fri-day-fea-ture! Fri-day-fea-ture! Fri-day-fea-ture!! YAY!!

The illustrations are so cute and detailed! The door on the house even has a mail slot! <3

Aww, Mr. Hooty and Miss Owl are adorable (minus the keeping-you-awake-at-night part!) Come on, Mr. Hooty! Give Miss Owl a call! A "Hooty Call" LOL! :-P

I have a hilarious picture in my head of owls wearing bowling shoes and eating Vol-au-vents!

That sounds like a very nice job for Mr. and (future) Mrs. Hooty, I hope some day their dreams (and yours!) of eloping come true! Keep visualizing the dream Mr. Hooty! :D

Happy Friday 13th! Twitt...

Now I've heard it all, a fly-in movie! What a delightful post. Such talent, such flair, now just think about it. If those two "love birds" didn't keep you up all night we wouldn't have such a pleasant "Sketchy Friday Feature." Thanks for the chuckle:)
